Development of Innovative 3-D Dental Measurement Technique and Manpower for Tooth Model Restoration Through University-industry Collaboration Programs

This article presents the research development and education program on innovative 3-D dental measurement technique for tooth model restoration through University-industry Collaboration Programs in Taiwan. The AOI Laboratory at National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) joined the Precision Measurement Education Improvement Program as a university partner to promote the achievement of expected objectives in establishing cut-edge technology and skilled manpower for the AOI (Automatic Optical Inspection) industry. To effectively leverage industrial and university resources as well as guarantee our research projects developing toward real world problems of beneficial generic value, the project was seeking opportunities to work with the local industry. The AOI laboratory has invited Chitai 3D family Technology Pty Ltd as a joined sponsor to launch a NSC (National Science Council of the Republic of China) project for the development of an innovative 3-D laser scanning system for tooth restoration. The development of the above technology focuses on optical measurement, system miniaturization, Opto-electronic system, and training of skilled personnel. In addition to the R&D of the developed technology, the program has also outlined and implemented four other subprograms, including the interdisciplinary course program, intellectual properties and technology transfer, establishment of industrial cooperation & alliance, and organization of the conferences and training workshop, as essential means to strengthen the technology education for cultivating required manpower for the industries, as well as promoting technology dispersion into the industries for the best utilization.
